Kites In Lightning Unleash a Powerful Fusion of Emotion and Energy in New Indie Rock Single, “Sunburn,” Dropping October 23rd

Fort Collins, CO — Indie rock band Kites In Lightning is set to release their fiery new single, “Sunburn,” available everywhere on October 23rd. 

​

Described as an intense and atmospheric track, “Sunburn” conveys a sense of urgency and restrained emotion through rich sonic textures and dynamic melodies. The lyrics reflect on the bittersweet experience of being enamored with talented and beautiful people, encapsulated in the lyric from band lyricist and songwriter Ben Haugestuen: “shiny people always leave me with a sunburn.” The song’s musical tension and dynamics mirror this theme, creating an immersive listening experience.

Kites In Lightning, hailing from Northern Colorado, features frontmen Eric Lungstrum (guitar, vocals) and Ben Haugestuen (guitar, vocals, keys). They are supported by bassist Karl Ayers and drummer Eric Zylstra, whose rhythmic backbone maintains momentum and keeps listeners engaged. With songwriting collaborations among all members, the band’s sound is a unique mix of indie and alternative rock inspired by icons like Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Sufjan Stevens, Death Cab for Cutie, Elliott Smith, The National, Arcade Fire, and The Decemberists. Their style can best be described as “classic indie with a modern twist.”

“Sunburn” will be featured on Kites In Lightning’s upcoming full-length album, “Downdraft,” set for release in early 2026.
